Educational Outcomes

Field trips to the Wisconsin 9/11 Memorial & Education Center help students understand the events of September 11, 2001, explore the symbolism throughout the Memorial, and consider the lasting impact of 9/11 on Wisconsin and the nation. Educator-developed lesson plans extend the experience into the classroom and align with Wisconsin Academic Standards.

GRADES 3–5

Students build foundational inquiry and research skills while exploring geography, historical perspectives, and connections between past events and the present. Lessons align with Wisconsin standards in Inquiry, Geography, and History.

GRADES 6–8

Students examine 9/11 through inquiry and multiple historical perspectives, considering cause and effect, continuity and change, and the ways past events continue to influence the present. Lessons align with Wisconsin standards in Inquiry and History.

Grades 9-12

Students engage in more complex historical inquiry, evaluate sources and historical context, and analyze how significant events and turning points relate to present-day issues. Lessons align with Wisconsin standards in Inquiry and History.

For the past 6 years, my students and I have taken a field trip to the Wisconsin 9/11 Memorial & Education Center. The space is beautiful and thought-provoking with a number of educational stations throughout. It has helped give my students a better understanding of what happened and how our nation and communities came together following.
